Meath & Navan Council Offices, Navan, Co. Meath
About the project: The design and master plan for the new headquarters for Meath County Council and Navan Town Councils aims to connect this unique urban site to the town and parklands beyond. It is organised by three heavy linear blocks which present a dynamic organic faade to the town. In front of these is the plaza which connects to the town, pedestrian footbridge, and river walk with park beyond. Council chambers are located at either end of the central concourse and act as focal points within the building. The design provides maximum passive solar conditions and natural ventilation within the building with the little reliance on mechanical installation. The orientation of the building protects the open plan offices from strong summer southern light, while the windows within allow light to filter through to the street concourse and atrium behind.
